Liane Bonin of HitFix.com writes: It’s the big finale of “PR,” and you can look at the episode as either a battle between good (Mondo or Andy) vs. evil (Gwetchen) or as a battle between good taste and bad taste or maybe just as another reality TV show catfight, but in any case, it should be exciting. I’ll be sad to see season eight end, although I do have high hopes that during the part of the show in which all the designers come together to gab about their memories, Ivy will come unglued and beat the hell out of someone. I’m sentimental that way.
Anyway, it’s almost time for Fashion Week and the designers are sharing their feelings, probably shortly after the producers of the show order them to do exactly that. Gwetchen tells Mondo she never expected to go so far on the show, but she set the intention, so it happened! Wow! That nutty twiggy self-help crap really works! I’m going to read “The Celestine Prophecy” and make some pot brownies, ASAP!
Luckily, it’s then time for all the designers to come together to talk about who they liked and who they hated. This year, I expect this segment to be quite amusing. Mondo and Andy are beyond thrilled to see the deposed designers waiting for them by the runway. Funny, we don’t hear from Gwetchen on this point. Hmm, wonder why?
But wait! Before the “let’s beat up on Ivy and Gwetchen because we finally can” part begins, we have to waste some time. Because “PR” has two hours to fill, we are treated to a segment rewinding through Andy’s best moments on the show. Andy did have some spectacular designs this season, although he did have a fondness for tiny pleats that looked Elizabethan in an unfortunate way.
Anyway, once that’s over, Heidi asks the designers if anything has changed for them since the show started airing. Peach reveals that she has a huge gay following. Valerie got a marriage proposal. Casanova learned a lot of English. And, oh yes, the designers all get quizzed on whether Jason is as crazy and if Ivy and Gwetchen are as bitchy as they seem. Mwahahahaha!

UGH!! Here we go again!! Mondo should have won, hands down no doubt about it. His collection wasn't as great as I thought it was going to be but it was far and above Gretchen's any day. My Aunt Dorothy wears those clothes and there wasn't one thing(except maybe the jewelry)that I would ever wear or buy of hers. The wrong winner won and I say every year I am not going to watch again but his very well may be my last.
Gretchen should have never made it to Fashion Week. Her clothes are boring. Mondo, beyond a shadow of a doubt, should have won.
I missed the episode, but hearing that Gretchen won gives me an icky feeling. Her clothes have been homely and strange since I began watching.
This win was all about the judges egos. Mondo had the nerve to go ahead and use the gown Michael Kors didn't like and didn't remove the head decorations that Nina objected to so they had hissy fits and gave the win to Gretchen. It seems to me the current trend is NOT her casual sportswear but a return to the Mad Men look of the fifties. That was such a week excuse. I say new judges next year!!!
I was thinking about the same. Gretchen was awarded as winner because she listened to the judges. There was nothing interesting about her clothes. Mondo should have won.
I am appalled at this win. Gretchen's clothes were AWFUL and that jewelry was crap. I can't believe Heidi let Nina and Michael bully her. But we can tell Michael is slipping by allowing Jessica Simpson look so crappy in that dress of his. YECH!!!! I would not even notice Gretchen's clothes in a store. Mondo deserved it so much more, his use of color, pattern, design, and texture was impeccable. I would wear that black polka dot dress, the little strapless dress, and several other pieces in his line and I am past 40 in age. There is not one item that Gwetchen I mean Gretchen designed on the entire show that did not look like Bohemian meets Southwest Granny!! AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. Besides the fact that she is a 2 faced B**ch.
I wouldn't even notice them at Salvation Army.
Gretchen's clothes should come with a copy of the Prairie Home Companion! Everything looked the same, and the same was uninteresting. Out of the 3 collections, I thought hers was the most boring! Mondo has a vision with his clothes, he is identifiable with his use of color and patterns and their is an edginess that Gretchen just doesn't have. The judges are always talking about this being the runway and you have to raise it up a notch, but they give the win to a designer whose clothes look like ready to wear. Make up your mind guys! You tell the designers one thing all season and then switch to something else at the end! Very disgusted with the show. If it wasn't for the designers I would never watch these pompous ass judges do anything!!!
I still can't beleive she won, seriously? They booted Michael C off cuz his clothes were the same color. Gretchen were also the same color and ugly ass crap to boot. At least Michael's were nice to look at, and would have made a better runway show. Mondo should have won hands down, he was roobed!!
A crime of fashion! Mondo was robbed!
Mondo was definitely robbed! He has been praised all season long by ALL the judges how much they liked him pairing different patterns and colors together in his designs. And then they back track in the finale saying his designs were too "costumey" and were geared toward juniors??? Make up your freakin' minds!! I don't get them anymore. Gretchen's outfits all looked the same. And can you honestly see ANYONE wearing the "underwear" style bottoms she "designed"??? I was under the impression that a designer wanted to make a statement and not blend in with everything else in the market today. Project Runway proved me wrong.... They gave the win to someone who's going to give us the same..... with designer underwear to boot!
Boring is what sells in Manhattan and Liz Claiborne. The heyday of Manhattan as cutting edge is so over.
Talk about talking out of both sides of your mouth. Mondo's collection was "too youthful", and Gretchen's was not? What self-respecting adult woman would run around wearing diapers as outerwear? I live in South Texas and they wouldn't even be appropriate in this heat. They talked about Gretchen's clothes being "fashion forward" and all I could see were some really bad 80's MC Hammer pants. The entire season was obviously a set-up for her to win. Think about it. She should have been gone LONG AGO, especially when she was the team leader for the group challenge and made nearly every single ugly piece in that collection. Something is not quite right with PR and I won't be watching again.
I think it's aweful that Mondo didn't win. She has barely skimped by all season and that boring granny colored crap won!PLEASE people there is no accounting for taste among any of the judges. She has no flare, takes no chances and whines the entire way there. What a let down.
Change the judges. Nina is too old now to understand what fashion is. She is supposed to be a fashion director for a magazine and one wonders how did she get the job. Michael Koors was afraid of competition perhaps and decided to eliminate someone who could have taken some of his clientele. I think Heidi should have pulled rank on them since it is her show. What did the judges tell Jessica and Heidi to change their minds?
All four judges need to go to K-mart to see Gretchen's collection already there. Is Halloween ready.
Never thought about it but you are right, it is time to change the judges because they are not seeing what the people are seeing. Maybe they should put one or two real women in there as judges and I bet the outcome would be very different.
After seeing Gretchen's line I just kept think that the judges were going to pound her into the ground. Boring beyond all compare! All the same (ugly) colors, panties for outerwear and all the tops cut the same...but NO, she won. Mondo's collection was wonderful. I'm over 40 and would have no problem wearing several of his pieces. His collection was so interesting, heck I liked Andy's over hers. I agree, this was a setup to have her win all along. I think my days of watching Project Runway are over. Heidi you really let us all down, tell Nina to shut it and pick the real winner. Mondo you RULE!
I agree that Nina and Michael Koors should be retired. They're old/bitter and are losing lost touch with reality. The show really lost it's edge yesterday by not declaring Mondo the winner. He is obviousy the most talented. Too bad.
I've been in Kor's stores there were mostly purses, which he does not make. So his comment last night about making everything he shows is crap.
Bad decision - I will never watch Project Runway again.
same here, i will never watch project runway again..
Maybe the reason Michael liked Gretchen's clothes so much is he didn't take of those brown sunglasses at the show and that was the only color he could see. Mondo definetly got robbed.
I am happy Gretchen won, regardless of her supposed bad behavior. She could have used more color but the collection was not that bad.
They all did well and many times those that came in 2nd and 3rd etc. end up surpassing the winner!
I had a feeling this was going to happen when she was selected over Michael C. I was shocked Michael Kors didn't criticize that dress she made. Like why was their a diaper in the back or was it a built in shopping bag.
How did they select those drab, boring clothes over Mondo or even Andy. I thought everything she did looked the same. Was everything made from the same print? And that jewelry wasn't so great and I love big, bold jewelry with modern or organic design. This was the worst winner yet. This was the first time I realized they were supposed to be designing for Macy's.
First Michael C was robbed of the opportunity to be in the finals and then Mondo was robbed of the win.
Project Runway has lost a loyal follower; shame on you Heidi - and why aren't you wearing any of Gretchen's clothing yes because they are boring, poor color palate and like her personality sour. The only saving grace left on this show is Tim Gunn.
Same here. I'm done watching. have watched since Day 1 very first episode. I sew and knit and do all kinds of crafty things and immediately fell in love with this show. I have weathered other winners I didn't agree and waited out the whole Bravo vs Lifetime. I reluctantly learned what channel Lifetime was on so I could follow my favorite reality show. My favorite show period. I tolerated the increasing product placements and plugs. (Garnier, L'Oreal, bleh bleh accessory wall ad naseum) I actually grew to be amused by the inane Lifetime Movie promos thrust upon. Bored by the whole "model" show. I truly grew to detest Gretchen the season. Like the reviewer, I wonder if I am able to separate my loathing of her from the dislike of her repetitive, drab and droopy designs. (Granny panties!!!!) But last night was IT for this long time watcher. When you combine the strictlly airtime filler content with the absolutely asinine promos for the 'Job Fairy" show and then the selection of Gretchen's colleciton over Mondo it equals my permanently unprogramming Project Runway from my DVR. One day Project Runway, you're IN and now is the day you are OUT.
It was all a fix. Nick Verreos said on his blog the produces decided to give the award to the wrong person to create a buz and save the dying show. Now they are thanking Gretchen from creating said buz and hopefully save the show from cancellation because everyone is talking about it. Now this makes sense. Since everyone thought Mondo would be the winner, they decided to give the award to the designer at the bottom.
Heidi and Jessica were on team Mondo. What changed Heidi's mind was that she gets to stay on the show for another season and now they hope all the people talking about the show will tune in to see the next season.
I agree that Mondo was by far the best at all aspects... his sewing skills, his ingenuity, and his playfulness.
I never liked a single thing Gretchen designed all season....BORING! Who was she designing for? I dont know any woman that would want to be draped in fabric all day like a sack. Why was Kors so fast to squash Jessica for the comment that the clothes were too loose? Did you see that black garbage bag he dressed her in? Maybe Gretchen helped design it. It did nothing for her fuller figure.
Andy was likeable enough, but he didnt have much depth of design. Mondo could pick a fabric that on the bolt, looked like nothing a woman would wear....and made it awesome! I knew an interior designer that had that same flair. What a talent!
I would have rather seen some elegant evening gowns, or fun dresses come down the runway. Just try to find a nice cocktail dress in any "ready-to-wear" store these days. Maybe they should have kept Michael around, at least to class up the show a little bit.
Very disappointed in the finale and I dont expect to see much from Gretchen in the future....at least I hope not.
Worst decision ever. Gwetchen should have been eliminated a long time ago. Mondo was clearly the best. Change judges. I won't watch it again.
I am with Heidi and Jessica, Mondo's clothes made more of a fashion statement. I don't know why they changed their minds, I wish they had fought harder for Mondo.
I think Michael Kors and Nina are out of their out of their minds, Gretchen's clothes looked like they belonged on the cast of "Little house on the prairie". Women don't want plain, brown, boring and ugly clothes, they want whimsy and the dramatic. I don't know what woman is supposed to be excited by Gretchen's monotone and depressing look. I don't care how established Kors and Nina are, they cannot sell most women on a flour sack by saying it is the latest rage...
I cannot believe all I've heard all season was be true to yourself. Heidi I am very disappointed in you.
Why would you let middle aged people like Nina and Michael sway you to Blah Gretchen.. She is a total disappointment.
You should have been true to yourself and chosen MONDO ! Get Rid of Nina and Michael and freshen up your show.
Gretchen will do well at forever 21 but not as a up and coming "Designer"
I believe that the biggest mistake that Mondo made was upsetting Nina and Michael and bringing forward the long dotted dress. I believe someone also warned him about the head gear. They warned them and he didn't listen and I don't thing they liked that very much. I believe they were telling him you had better listen to us or else. They brought up the fact that Gretchen listened to them and did what they said and guess what..... I'm an older gal and wouldn't wear Mondo's collection (just not into mixing prints/plaids, etc) but based on past winner's, he was right in line with the different and unusual stuff which usually won. I liked Andy's collection and was surprised that he only had 2 colors. I would have loved to see some of his warrior woman!
You are absolutely correct. Or to put it more explicitly, Mondo didn't kiss Nina and Michael's a$$!! Way to go Mondo. YOU RULE AND GRETCHEN DROOLS!!!!
Mondo deserved the win....we ALL know it. I don't know what the h.e.l.l. happened....
