“Facts of Life” star Mindy Cohn, better known as Natalie to her '80s fan base, will appear on the season premiere of “What Not to Wear."
Much like “Blossom’s” Mayim Bialik two seasons before her, Cohn's visit is all about being in the market for a marketable new look, and hosts Clinton Kelly and Stacy London are only too happy to help her out.
Once Kelly and London inform the former child star of the styles that best suit her, she takes the time to school them on the personal challenges of plus-size fashion.
Cohn's moment in the makeover spotlight airs Friday night on TLC.

Glad to see them working with a plus size actress. Many plus size women do buy their clothing too big or as Mindy said you buy it and it is cut square or strangely and you have to have it altered to look nice like it did in the catalog or in the misses size section. It is almost as if every designer says if you are larger than a size 16 then you need to just give up on fashion and wear a moo-moo.
I loved this episode. Yes, I face the same challenges as Mindy does and I thought the things that Clinton and Stacy taught her to look for would be useful to me too. Now, to use those rules to hunt something luscious down!
I hope at some point Mindy will read these posts. I couldn't find a way to send an email to anyone who would get it to her. First of all I was impressed when she gave the $5,000 gift card back to Clinton. What an awesome person! Then to share the frustration of shopping for clothes in todays market. Everyone is "cutting their clothes slimmer" with slim fit this and skinny that. I am a 42 year old woman! I have had a child. My thighs are nevery going to look good in skinny jeans even if I weighed 100 pounds. I find the same sort of frustration lower down the size chart. It is frustrating to put on a size 12 pants so that the hips and thighs will fit and have it be huge in the waist! I am 5'3" myself.
Any way I wanted to let Mindy know what a beautiful person she is (not just pretty for a fat girl--although I do think she is pretty) but genuinely beautiful.
I am glad I happened to catch this show.
I did enjoy the show!!!! Not everyone is a size 6 and being a plus size person, finding clothes to fit me has been a bumpy rollercoaster!!! Even with my jeans size 16 they are baggy on my because my legs are skinny!!! I really think I learned alot last night!!! I thought it was great that she gave the card back to Clinton and Stacy.... I loved all the clothes she picked out!!! Mindy's hair came out wonderful!!!
I wish my friends would put my name in for a makeover from WNTW!! (HINT HINT)
She was gracious and lovely I am a size 4 and thought about turning the show away- I remembered her upbeat character and decided to view. I thought she was a real"mensch" and her makeover was great. I hope she keeps it up. I know a lot of American women are heavy but many need to learn how to dress. They do indeed look slovenly- Even in her before clothing she looked okay but her after was fabulous- Mazel Tov on a job well done.
I do hope these comments are relayed to her
I hate the fact that I missed it AND my DVR didn't catch it...THANKS KIDS!!
Mindy is one gorgeous girl and always have been. I was a fan then, and am a renewed fan, now! I was the "Natalie" of our group growing up. Seeing the trailers, I believe I can find clothes again, just where? I keep gaining, no matter how I try. But if she can love her body, cellulite and all, so can I.
I hope it replays again, soon. I really want to see how someone my size shops and looks good. I'm sick of jeans and tees.
I wish someone would enter me, but like my daughter said, where would I reveal? The bowling alley isn't exactly what they look for.
Thank you so much WNTW! What a terrif show about someone who seems to be real and lovely and now looks the part. I saw Jane Fonda on Oprah and got depressed, I saw Mindy and think I"ll get my scraggy hair cut and go shopping. Let's see more of women who aren't able to pop into cute little shops and find things that fit. Plus sizes cover us, but are soooo boring! Thanks to WNTW I now own lots of "pop of color" shoes and bags, just need more inbetween! Thanks again for a great show.
Hey Tina 2575430-----------GET OVER YOURSELF !
I am not sure why the nasty comeback- I thought I was quite positive in my outlook and did not put heavy people in a bad light- Why are you nasty- Hmmm- Maybe you really don't like being fat- You certainly don't have Cohen's class- She was fantastic- and yes- sadly there are too many obese women- the stats are diabetics( a deadly disease) affects 1 in 10- That will go to 1 in 3 by the time this younger generation is grown— IT IS A DEADLY HEALTH ISSUE- I also assert that MANY heavy women would choose to be thin if they had a magic wand- But lo and behold it takes hard work- Not all fall in this category but you seem awfully angry-
I happened to catch the show and thought it was great. I recognized Mindy but didn't remember where I had seen her before. I too am a plus size and I am not exactly thin in the waist or thigh region. When I have gone to the department stores, Ireally did not like the things I saw there whether they were juniors, misses or womens. Some of the plus sizes were really ridiculous looking. I happen to like the poly-spandex knits which do not cling, do not require dry cleaning or ironing and are quite fashionable, belted or not. I get them on tv shopping chanels. They look great I have not had to send many back and they certainly can be dressed up or down and guess what? I am a 16 or 18 petite in slacks and a 1x in most dresses. There is no reason to look slovenly if you are a larger size and by the way, I could not afford to spend $5000.00 on clothing It can be done on a much smaller budget.
MARIAN- You are right on!!!!
AND NO the reason I was going to turn the show away was NOT because I am a 4 but because they were going to focus on how to dress a plus size woman- I watched because it was Mindy Cohen- She is a class act and showed as such- Delightful
There are not a lot of places that you can purchase plus size clothes or even order over the internet. Therefore sometimes you look outdated because the style you are wearing is old or whatever is in style doesn't become you then what. There were some buyers that were trying to dress plus size in junior styles. Not every plus sizer wants to wear stripes going theĀ wrong way or flowers. There are not enough dresses for plus size as well. If in the future the outfits that plus size celebrates wear was told or noted that we could follow up on. If you direct the plus size women where to go we will follow or at least check them out. This is not by choice.
