Sneak peek: HBO's 'Game of Thrones'

Fantasy fans still have a long wait for HBO’s epic medieval series “Game of Thrones,” which is currently set to premiere sometime in the spring of 2011, but if the latest “Thrones” trailer is anything to go by, it’ll be well worth the wait.

Intrigue! Crowns! Executions! Sean Bean! Sure, it's based on George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, but “Game of Thrones” looks like a perfect "Lord of the Rings"-meets-"The Tudors" mash-up — in the best possible way.

Ugh, it's not medieval! It's fantasy in a medieval-type setting. If George weren't so busy with this cable series, maybe he'd have time to actually finish the next installment in the written series after five years and counting! If this is a hit for HBO, the producers better pace themselves through the four complete books or they'll be wanting to light a fire under Martin's ice-bound typing fingers. A Dance with Dragons was supposed to be out in 2007! Says so right there at excerpt at the end of A Feast for Crows. George says he refuses to be "bullied" by his fans, but what mystifies me is that his publisher Bantam is content to let him dick around like this. He's going to pull a Robert Jordan and up and die before he gets around to finishing this now seven-expected installments. Oh, well, guess another writer can always finish it, like Brandon Sanderson did for Jordan.
