First buy for 'Biggest Loser' winner Jeremy? A minivan for one of the quitters

    NBC

    By Ree Hines

On Tuesday night, Jeremy Britt was named "The Biggest Loser" on season 13 of the weight-loss competition, and with that honor came a big-bucks prize. So what does the 23-year-old plan to do with the cool $250,000 he just won? He'll spend part of it on one of the former players who never made to finale night.

As fans of the show know, weeks ago, all of the then-remaining "Loser" hopefuls said they would walk away from the show due to a twist they considered unfair. Two of them, Mark Cornelison and Buddy Shuh, made good on that threat. But despite leaving the game, Buddy is about to win -- in a way.

"When he had left, he said all he wanted was a minivan out of the show," Jeremy told reporters during a recent conference call. "I told him if I won I'd buy him a minivan."

And now he plans to make good on that promise.

Jeremy is close to both Buddy and Mark, who due to their decision to quit the game, weren't allowed to take part in the finale.

"Buddy and Mark are two great friends of mine, and I definitely do care about them a lot," he said the men. "And it was unfortunate that they weren't able to have their moment on the stage like we all did, because I know firsthand how hard each of them worked."

Ex-'Biggest Loser' contestants debut newlywed status at finale

    By Ashley Majeski, TODAY.com contributor

Stephanie Anderson and Sam Poueu went on “The Biggest Loser” season nine to lose weight, but ended up gaining a lifelong companion. After a two-and-a-half year journey that has included tragedy and a collective weight loss of more than 240 lbs., the pair tied the knot on Saturday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in San Francisco.

“I felt incredible in my gown, the wedding weekend was perfect and I cannot be happier being a Mrs.!” Anderson tweeted earlier Wednesday. Their wedding guests included several "Biggest Loser" alum.

The couple made their first public appearance as newlyweds at Tuesday night’s “Biggest Loser” finale taping. Seated in the first row of the audience, former contestants and members of the production crew swarmed the couple during commercial, offering congratulations and well wishes. The couple happily showed off their new wedding rings -- engraved with the inscription "I Choose Us" -- to the show’s host, Alison Sweeney.

Later, the newlyweds headed to a Los Angeles hotel for the unofficial "Biggest Loser" alumni reunion to catch up with the former and current contestants of the show. They bailed out early in order to get some sleep before catching a 6 a.m. flight this morning to Vancouver to start their Alaskan cruise honeymoon.

The couple has battled against tragedy to find their happy ending. Last September, Poueu suffered a serious head trauma and other life-threatening injuries after he fell from a 54-foot roof deck in San Francisco. After months of arduous physical therapy, surgeries and recovery, Poueu took his first post-accident steps in December with Anderson by his side. His goal was to be able to dance with his wife at their wedding.

“I'm so grateful to have my happy ending,” Anderson tweeted Tuesday night.

The Poueus aren’t the only "Biggest Loser" alums to hear wedding bells. Season 13’s Joe Messina said “I do” on April 14 in Michigan in front of guests that included most of his castmates, including newly crowned season 13 winner Jeremy Britt. (Messina quit the show two weeks into taping.) His brother, Mike, went on to win the $100,000 at-home prize.

Season eight’s Daniel Wright and Rebecca Meyer are also planning a trip down the aisle. The couple became engaged in November.

Perk for 'Biggest Loser' winner Jeremy Britt? Beating Conda

    By Ree Hines

"Biggest Loser" viewers had a variety of opinions about who should win the weight-loss competition before Tuesday night's big finale, but they were almost unanimous about who shouldn't win. As many of them told us time and time again, they just didn't want to see polarizing player Conda Britt take the top honor. As it turns out, eventual winner Jeremy Britt, aka Conda's little brother, felt the same way -- sort of.

During a Wednesday morning visit to TODAY, the lead "Loser" shared his perspective on besting Conda, which had more to do with old-fashioned sibling rivalry than any issues with gameplay.

"There's no one that I wanted to beat more than my sister, to be honest," Jeremy said with a smile.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

But he didn't say it in a very strong voice: After Tuesday night's victory screams, Jeremy had little of that left. Still, with 199 pounds behind him, he managed to express his excitement about his new life and the reason he decided to put his old life behind him.

"I just realized that there were things my weight was holding me back from in life, and I didn't want to be held back from the things I wanted to do," he recalled from his pre-"Loser" days. "Of course, you want to hang out at the beach. Of course, you want to be an active person."

Which is why the 23-year-old is now "very thankful" for the show that he almost turned his back on weeks ago and looks forward to what lies ahead.

"For me, the rest of my life is just gonna be great from here on out," he predicted.

What do you think about Jeremy's win? Are you glad he beat his big sister? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.

Jeremy drops 199 pounds to win 'Biggest Loser' season 13

    NBC

Jeremy Britt, the season 13 champ!

    By Ree Hines

Just two episodes ago, Jeremy Britt deemed a "Biggest Loser" twist so unfair that he wanted to leave the game rather than continue it and run the risk of competing alongside an unworthy past player who simply won his or her way back into the game. Of course, unlike some others, Jeremy didn't quit -- he was eliminated. And it was that very same "unfair" twist that allowed him to return to the game and in the end, win it.

On Tuesday night's season 13 finale, the 23-year-old stepped on the scale and made the most of the opportunity he almost walked away from by besting his fellow finalists, including former professional wrestler Kim Nielsen and the game's most polarizing player, his own sister, Conda, with a total weight loss of 199 pounds.

The $250,000 grand-prize winner started the competition weighing in at 389, meaning his triple-digit loss represented 51.16 percent of his body weight, not to mention endless hours on the treadmill and a season full of last-chance workouts.

"It feels great," Jeremy said of his experience, just before learning that he won. "I felt like I was supposed to be here … I fought for it."

As for Jeremy's closest competition, it was Kim who nabbed second place in the season of "No Excuses." The single mother of three lost 118 pounds, 46.83 percentage of her starting weight and all of the inhibitions that she packed on with the original added pounds.

"I don't know what my future holds," Kim said of her new life. "I'm ready for anything. I'm ready for everything."

For Kim, everything quickly included another honor, as she then won The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award, a challenge first introduced by Michelle Obama earlier this season.

That left Jeremy's sister Conda -- the one contestant fans of the show openly rooted against throughout the season due to what many considered bullying behavior -- in the third place spot, with 115 pounds down and 39.12 percent behind her.

Conda made no mention of her less-than-inspiring reputation, but had something to say about what was most important to her about the entire experience.

"Life for me is completely different," she explained through tears. "I came here to change myself. I came here for my daughter (Brooklyn). … I accomplished what I came here to do."

Of course, Jeremy and his fellow finalists weren't the only ones to take the scales and compete for prize money on finale night. The 14 eliminated players also returned for a shot the $100,000 at-home reward.

The top contenders for the honor were Cassandra Sturos, Emily Joy and Mike Messina. Cassandra lost 92 pounds, Emily lost 102, but it was Mike, who left the game in the second week of the competition and came back looking like a new (easy-on-the-eyes) man on Tuesday, who earned the win. After starting the game at 358, the early ouster lost 160 (a full 44.69 percent of his weight) and exclaimed, "My God, I'm happy!"

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

Not on hand for finale night? The "Losers"-turned-quitters who left the show before their time -- Joe Messina, who went the way of the voluntary exit in week 3, and of course, Mark Cornelison and Buddy Shuh, who walked away from the game amid the recent "twist-gate" hubbub.

As for those who weren't there, those that were and the rest of the drama this season packed, former aqua team player Adrian Dortch summed it up best.

"We might be dysfunctional, but we are family," he smiled.

What did you think of the final results? Is Jeremy a worthy winner? Did Mike's at-home win surprise you? Share your thoughts about the finale and the whole "No Excuses" season on our Facebook page.

'Biggest Loser' host Alison Sweeney: Jeremy's the 'one to beat' on finale night

    By Ree Hines

It's been a season of big personalities and even bigger drama on "The Biggest Loser," and now the end is almost here. With the various highs and lows and all that walkout business in the past, the only remaining mystery on the show is who will win the top honors and earn the "Loser"-winner title.

Host Alison Sweeney stopped by TODAY on Tuesday to talk about the odds for finalists Kim, Conda and Jeremy.

"While (Kim) absolutely has a willpower of steel, and I would never count this woman out, the question becomes 'Does she have more weight to lose in time to get ready for tonight's finale?'" Sweeney summed up.

It's a good question considering that the last time viewers saw the remaining contestants, the former professional wrestler was in the weight-loss lead with very few pounds left to shed.

If she isn't "The Biggest Loser" on Tuesday night, that honor will go to one of two players who aren't exactly fan favorites -- the brother-sister duo who've earned their share of criticism this season.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

Conda ran afoul of fans early in the game because of what many considered bullying behavior, but Sweeney believes her determination could work in her favor for finale night.

"I think she feels a little bit like her brother has helped her through the season. …That's her perception," the host said. "So if anything, she going to work so hard to prove that she deserves to be there and standing on her own two feet."

But it's Jeremy, who recently insisted that a twist allowing one past player to return was unfair -- until he became that player, who Sweeney considers the one to watch.

"I think in some ways, you could say by the numbers, he's the one to beat," she revealed. "Jeremy has the weight to lose. He stayed steady through the entire season."

"Loser" fans will find out if he stayed steady all the way to the finals when "The Biggest Loser" finale airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Post-walkout, ex-contestants come back to fight for a spot on the 'Biggest Loser'

    NBC

Ex-"Losers" returned for another shot at the competition on Tuesday night's show.

    By Ree Hines

Last week on "The Biggest Loser," the contestants staged a mutiny when they got wind of a plan to bring back past players for a shot in the finals. Heck, two of them were so incensed they actually forfeited the game rather than endure the "unfair" (yet commonplace) twist. This week? They're baaaa-aack.

No, not mutineers Buddy and Mark, but rather those ex-"Losers" they were so worried about.

As Tuesday night's show opened, all of the former players (minus the disqualified quitters) filed into the weigh-in room -- including Jeremy, who fell below the red line after last week's drama.

"It better be me out of all of these people," Jeremy said in an on-camera confessional. "I don't know what we're going to have to do, but I have to be the person to beat at this."

And if anyone thinks that sounded just a bit entitled coming from a man who railed against this twist earlier, well, it does. And he wasn't the only one with that attitude.

"I definitely earned my spot as a finalist, as did Kim," said Jeremy's sister Conda. "But in my book there was already a final three. If there was going to be a third spot, it should be given to Jeremy. You don't give someone else a second chance when they've already been out."

No? Not only is that precisely what's been done on "Loser" (and several other reality TV competitions) at various points in each and every season, it's also precisely what she and Jeremy are hoping for now. After all, Jeremy's now one of those past players in need of a second chance.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

With the irony completely lost on both siblings, the returning contestants took on the first and the simplest leg of the challenge: a weigh-in that would allow the eight top "Losers" to move on to the next round.

Cassandra, Emily, Mike, Chris, Lauren, Kimmy, Megan and yes, Jeremy earned that honor and met again the next day for the real workout.

The three heats that followed mimicked the ones the contestants tackled on day one.

This time, instead of a  40-yard dash, they raced 100 yards. That challenge went to Cassandra, Lauren, Megan and Mike. Jeremy, barely nosing out Kimmy, also moved on.

In the puzzle round, players had to shuffle weights labeled with foods, placing them in the correct order according to calories. After that it was down to Mike, Lauren and -- you guessed it! -- Jeremy.

Each remaining player stepped up on posts for a golden-ticket gripping endurance challenge. Lauren, who was originally eliminated in week 3, dropped out after two and a half hours in, leaving Mike, who got the boot in week 2, to battle it out with you-know-who.

    And then ... Nooooooooooooooooooooo!

    Ahem. Mike fell. Jeremy won.

Some "Biggest Loser" fans might find that victory just a smidge disappointing after all of Jeremy's drama and handwringing last week, but hey, he's thrilled.

"This will easily go down as the most triumphant moment of my life," he said.

    No doubt.

What do you think of the new/old final three? Is it fair for Jeremy to come back into the game after he threatened to walk out over this very challenge? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.

'Biggest Loser's' Bob Harper defends Conda: She's really 'sweet'

    By Ree Hines

"The Biggest Loser's" Bob Harper visited TODAY Tuesday morning to share his take on last week's "Loser" walkout shocker, wherein all of the contestants threatened to walk and two made good on the threat. He also had something unexpected to say about Conda Britt, one of the remaining players who many regard as this season's villain.

After the veteran "Loser" trainer gave his general reaction to the mutiny, which matched what he shared on last week's show ("Have (they) never seen the show?!"), he was asked if Conda was really the big bad, tough figure that viewers seem to think she is.

"No she's not," Harper insisted. "She actually is a sweet girl. She really just doesn't take a lot of crap from anybody."

That's one way to look at it.

Outraged viewers: Kick the current 'Biggest Loser' contestants off the show

    NBC

The cast of "The Biggest Loser" told executive producer Todd Lubin they wanted to quit the show.

    By Ree Hines

The drama that fans had waited months to see finally unfolded on Tuesday night's episode of "The Biggest Loser," as all members of the not-so-final five threatened to quit the show -- and two of them backed up the threat with action.

Viewers watched as Mark, Buddy, Conda, Jeremy and Kim decided that a classic twist (wherein past players return for one more shot at the finals) was "unfair," and now those same viewers have something to say about the disgruntled group many of them are calling the "Biggest Sore Losers."

Out of the hundreds who posted about the episode on our Facebook page, the overwhelming majority are upset at Mark and Buddy for bailing on the show, and almost as many are just as upset that Conda, Jeremy and Kim were allowed to stay on.

"Should have let them all go and let 5 others compete for the finals!" Shane Crabtree wrote. "Feel bad for the people (who) wanted to be on the show to (lose) weight."

That sentiment was shared again and again.

"I think that they should have sent all five home after one hint of a complaint and just brought the last five who got kicked off back," Doris Williams recommended.

Yes, the only problem most "Loser" fans on our Facebook page or on the official "Biggest Loser" forums seemed to have with the show's producers was that they actually attempted to reason with the contestants and convince them not to quit rather than simply showing them the door. After all, the theme for the season is No Excuses, and these contestants had plenty of them.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

As for those who showed themselves the door, former fans told them just what they thought.

"I would give almost ANYTHING to work with those trainers for any amount of time and learn how to cook healthy and the right way to work out," Stacey Lewis insisted. "That stinks for the last 2 people that they voted off...You walked away from a possible $250,000 dollars for your families."

Since leaving the show, Mark took to his own Facebook page to offer a lengthy explanation for his actions.

"I never quit," he wrote in one portion of the post. "I was just done with this part of God's shaping of the man who sits here typing this."

During Buddy's exit from the show, he offered these words: "I don't feel like a quitter, though I'm quitting the show."

They may not view themselves as quitters, but it's clear others do, including last season's winner John Rhode.

"If you commit & take a spot on the show, see it through to the end," he tweeted after the episode aired. "U could beat me every day & I wouldn't quit."

Walkout drama: 'Biggest Loser's' quitters complain 'It's not fair!'

    NBC

Jeremy and his fellow contestants decided the latest "Biggest Loser" twist was just too much.

    By Ree Hines

    "Are you kidding me?!"

That's how veteran "Biggest Loser" trainer Bob Harper responded when he learned that the remaining contestants in the game were ready to quit rather than endure a simple twist that previous players had faced time and time again. It's likely how many viewers responded too.

The drama all went down in the first 15 minutes of Tuesday night's "Biggest Loser." Just as reports revealed earlier in the season, mutiny was afoot on the ranch after the contestants got wind of an upcoming twist that would allow eliminated players to compete for a chance to get back into the game.

You know, the same way Ramon rejoined the competition just one week before last season's finale; or the way Jay returned to the game in season 11; or the way Ed earned his way back in season six; or the way eventual season-five winner Ali came back -- or the way several other contestants came back during several other seasons.

Needless to say, it's more the norm than the exception. But that was news to Mark, Buddy, Conda, Jeremy and Kim, who all ditched their show shirts, microphones and of course, their end of the reality-TV bargain by threatening to walk out over the perceived injustice.

"You're quitting the show because you think it's unfair?" executive producer Todd Lubin asked.

"Because I know it's unfair," Jeremy said.

"Because it is unfair," Mark agreed.

From there, things got worse. Bob and fellow trainer Dolvett Quince met with the disgruntled gang they've worked out with for weeks and got the cold shoulder.

"It doesn't involve you," Kim told them.

But it certainly involved the show's lawyer Jeff Friedman, who, along with host Alison Sweeney, joined the not-so-final five for a little contract talk.

Jeremy explained to the pair that in his heart, he knew this twist was wrong. There was just one problem. In the contract he signed before the show, it was right. Not only did the contract state that something like this final challenge might possibly happen. It stated clearly that it would definitely happen.

"All contestants, including all eliminated contestants, will be invited to participate in the final challenge for the series, and the one contestant who wins it will be automatically eligible to win the grand prize," the lawyer read.

So, that put an end to all the "unfair" bellyaching -- or at least it should have.

Instead, two members were still so sore about it all that they decided they'd rather call it quits and go home than endure any more from the reality show that had helped them drop weight, provided them with top trainers, took them on a vacation to Hawaii and even brought their families along for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the White House.

"I'm done with the twists and the turns and all that," Mark explained. "I've got to stand for what I think is right. I know this isn't going to be popular, but it's my decision."

One that he shared with Buddy.

"I'm following my heart right now and I'm doing what I feel is the right thing to do," said Buddy. "There's a part of me that's upset because I didn't ever see it ending this way. ... I just feel real strong that I have to make a stand for this thing that I feel shouldn't be. I don't feel like a quitter, though I'm quitting the show."

    With that, they left.

But the show goes on for the three who stayed behind. Well, it goes on for the two of them that are headed to the finals.

Despite Mark and Buddy's exits, there was still a weigh-in, and it didn't go well for Jeremy. He fell below the dreaded red line. Unlike the earlier twist talk, at least he didn't call his weak weigh-in unfair.

His sister, on the other hand ...

"I feel like that's unfair!" Conda cried. "I feel like it should be Jeremy there (in the finals), not me. It should be Jeremy there, not Kim!"

But life, like reality TV, isn't always fair.

As for those returning past players who caused such a commotion, expect to see them battle it out for a shot in the finals next week.

What did you think of all the "unfair" action? Do think Mark and Buddy really had a good reason to walk off the show? Share your thoughts about the episode on our Facebook page.

Bingeing turns one 'Loser' into the biggest gainer

    NBC

Too much wasn't enough for Chris on Tuesday night's "Biggest Loser."

    By Ree Hines

Fresh from last week's makeovers, the contestants from "The Biggest Loser" looked forward to their promised meeting with First Lady Michelle Obama and a chance to make it one step closer to their ultimate weight-loss goals this week -- at least most of them did.

In part two of "The Biggest Loser" White House excursion, Chris enjoyed the Obama meetup as much as everyone else. Working out alongside the first lady, learning about the campaign to stem childhood obesity and discovering the role she could play in the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award were all satisfying. But the part about getting closer to her weight-loss goal? That fell apart.

The problems started when Chris decided to give her husband, aka ousted "Loser" Roy, a call to see how he was doing. As it turned out, Roy was depressed, and he seemed determined to drag his wife down with him.

"I guess the long and short of it is that I've been a little low, and it's been ... you know me," Roy cried into the phone before telling her, "There's no substitute for my wife."

For those who wondered what Chris was talking about in the very first episode of the season when she referred to Roy as co-dependent, wonder no more.

Maintaining her own side of the co-dep equation, Chris asked Roy if he needed her to come home, and he didn't hesitate before he said, "Yeah."

That's when Chris, undaunted by the cameras around her, launched into a full-fledged food binge. Surrounded by a room-service bounty of a hamburger, a grilled cheese sandwich, bananas, a jumbo chocolate bar, a big jar of peanut butter and an even bigger jar of mayonnaise, Chris started eating odd combinations of everything.

Each bite of the grilled cheese sandwich was covered in a fresh glob of mayo. The burger was coated in mayo and peanut butter. There was hardly a food configuration she didn't try.

"I did the only thing I knew to try to find comfort, and my comfort has always been food," she said.

Maybe, but it seemed just as likely that Chris piled on the mayo to intentionally gain weight and possibly leave the game without having to quit following that talk with Roy.

    Just a theory.

After some tough talk from trainer Bob Harper, wherein he told her if she gave up on herself, there's no need for him to work hard for her, Chris claimed she recommitted herself to the competition. But by then, the damage was done. The scale revealed that she gained two pounds, putting her below the yellow line alongside Kim, who dropped two pounds.

It only took two votes to send Chris home, and Conda and Buddy provided them.

Do you think Chris' binge was purely emotional, or do you think it was part of an intentional plan to pack on the pounds and go home? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.

'Biggest Loser's' Dolvett Quince puts the first lady through one tough workout

"The Biggest Loser" is all about dropping pounds and picking up healthy habits for the future. It's a philosophy endorsed by First Lady Michelle Obama, which is why she invited the contestants and their trainers to the White House for the next episode of the weight-loss competition.

On Monday morning, trainer Dolvett Quince visited TODAY to offer a sneak peek of the show, including a high-energy White House workout with Obama.

See more when "The Biggest Loser" airs Tuesday night at 8p.m. on NBC.

Forget the pounds! 'Biggest Loser' makeover takes years off one contestant

    NBC

Mrs. Santa ... err, Chris ... before and after.

    By Ree Hines

After months of grueling workouts and scale-side showdowns, the contestants on "The Biggest Loser" got a big break on Tuesday night. Instead of stressing about shedding pounds, it was time to relax and shed their old looks for this season's makeover episode.

With the help of celebrity hairstylist Ken Paves and "How Do I Look?" host Jeannie Mai -- not to mention the added incentive of an invitation to meet First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House -- the "Losers" had no trouble letting go of old clothes, old hairdos and recent hair-don'ts (as in that goatee-gone-wild that once called Mark's chin home).

For Conda that meant saying so long to several inches of her hair, which she chose to donate to Locks of Love. (Way to change your look and your mean-girl reputation, Conda!) She also said goodbye to her natural brown hair color for a blonde look, which led to her new self-dubbed nickname: Blonda.

For Kim, who's already slimmed down to a size most players don't see until the finale night, the makeover mostly gave her a chance to try on new dresses that suited her impressive figure.

Mark, Buddy and Jeremy's big reveals involved shaves and shorter haircuts (well, Mark can't exactly go any shorter) in addition to the usual new duds. They looked great, but none of them really compared to Conda or Kim -- or Chris.

Yes, the makeover shocker of the night was that the woman who started the competition looking like a fitting Mrs. Klaus to her Santa of a husband, Roy, doesn't anymore. Chris dropped years, if not decades, just by swapping her gray, shapeless hair for a light-brown, kicky style. Just wait until Santa sees her!

And wait she will, because while all of the contestants were reunited with loved ones ready to ooh and ah over their looks at the White House, past competitors weren't invited. Still, Chris' kids seemed impressed, as did each player's family members -- especially Conda's, who didn't even recognize her at first.

That's all the feel-good hour offered before the dreaded phrase "to be continued" flashed across the screen. Which means the meeting with the first lady will also have to wait -- until next week.
