Jimmy Fallon's 'SNL' audition tape makes an excellent first impression

    By Randee Dawn

"I'm going to do some celebrity impressions." Talk about your low-key, understated introductions! That's how Jimmy Fallon's 1998 audition for "Saturday Night Live" kicked off, with a statement that doesn't even come close to describing the following eight minutes of Fallon hilariously hitting the nail on the head again and again.

Back in 1998, Fallon was just another rising comic, but the future "Late Night" host and Slow Jammer clearly knew his craft and his strengths. He started off with a "celebrity walk-a-thon" with John Travolta, Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock, then segued into original characters like "Double Take Guy" and "Wannabe Composer."

About six minutes into the audition, once he got the expected stuff out of the way, Fallon hit his stride by picking up a guitar, noting, "I also do a lot of musical impressions, but I'm going to make them short for you." Short they may have been, but they were also some of the funniest stuff he did. He slid from U2's Bono gasping at the start of "Desire" to The Cure ("My tears are like hydrochloric acid, it burns my face") to The Wallflowers ("Everybody knows that I'm Bob Dylan's son; that's how I got to open for the Stones") and Alanis Morissette ("My voice is annoying; my video's boring").

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

The "SNL" bigwigs clearly agreed they had something special with Fallon, and he was hired to work on the 1998-99 season.

What's your favorite part of Fallon's audition tape? Tell us on our Facebook page!

Jimmy Fallon gives 'Downton Abbey' the 'Late Night' treatment

    NBC

The demanding Lord Fallon needs a joke on "Downton Sixbey."

    By Ree Hines

The bounty of "Downton Abbey" spoofs just got a big boost with the latest addition from "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon.

In the spirit of "Downton Arby's" and "The Fresh Prince of Downton Abbey," Fallon, with help from Brooke Shields, Fred Armisen and the whole "Late Night" crew, offered viewers a dramatic period piece based on the inner workings of his on-screen home, Studio 6B.

In the appropriately titled "Downton of Sixbey," Lord Fallon bemoaned the lack of Kardashian jokes in his monologue. That had the servants working hard for a fix.

Downstairs writer Bashir Salahuddin complained, "I don't think we can do another Kardashian joke."

"Well, that's what his lordship has asked for!" announcer Mr. (Steve) Higgins insisted.

Check out the unusable joke the lowly cue-card valet came up with in the clip below:

Attack of the clones: Charlie Sheen finds doppleganger in Jimmy Fallon

    By Randee Dawn

What's better than one Charlie Sheen? Jimmy Fallon has the answer: TwoCharlie Sheens. Clones.

In this special "commercial" for fictional men's cologne Clone, which aired on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" Thursday, clone Charlie Sheen (Fallon, with a spot-on vocal impression), meets his original. They caress each other's cheeks, and Sheen (original recipe) notes, "My awesomeness is ... everywhere."

There's some existential discussion about which of them is the real Charlie Sheen and which is the clone, and then Sheen's phone rings: Chuck Lorre (creator of "Two and a Half Men") is calling. Neither wants to take the call.

Jimmy Fallon declares War on Jon Hamm

    NBC

Jimmy Fallon declared war on "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm during Tuesday's "Late Night."

    By Ree Hines

"Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon got all wet on Tuesday night, and he wasn't the only one. "Mad Men" star Jon Hamm joined Fallon for a soggy version of the classic card game War, and there wasn't a dry eye -- or anything else -- on the stage.

For each round of play, the high-card holder earned the right to splash a glassful of water in his opponent's face, and of course, only one man could win.

And that man was Fallon. The host had five shots to give Hamm a face full of water (and he thanked the actor for the privilege), while Hamm only scored two shots against Fallon.

The best part of winning? Fallon earned yet another chance to soak Hamm and his fine Tom Ford suit -- this time with a water cannon.

Fallon's Neil Young gets 'Sexy' with Bruce Springsteen

    By Denise Hazlick

Jimmy Fallon has a mastered his impersonation of Neil Young, and last Friday night on "Late Night," his version of the rock legend paired with another rock legend, Bruce Springsteen, to take on LMFAO's "Sexy And I Know It."

Fallon gave over the entire hour of his show to Springsteen, who, along with the E Street Band, performed songs from his album, "Wrecking Ball," before closing the show, along with Tom Morello and The Roots, with "E Street Shuffle."

While Springsteen rarely fails to entertain, Fallon's ability to channel Young is equally impressive, and well worth watching. Check it out and let us know what you think of the performance on Facebook.

Upside of Lindsay Lohan on 'SNL' was classic 'Debbie Downer' sketch

    By Kurt Schlosser

Lindsay Lohan returns to host "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, and one of the upsides of that is Jimmy Fallon reminding us of a classic "Debbie Downer" sketch featuring the actress in 2004.

Lohan stopped by "Late Night" Thursday to talk about "SNL" and Fallon brought up the first ever airing of "Debbie Downer," a sketch starring Rachel Dratch as a character who always kills the happy mood of gatherings with bad news and negative facts.

Some of "SNL's" funniest moments come when the cast members can't control their own laughter during a bit, and this particular sketch featuring a family reunion at Disney World is a prime example. Lohan and Fallon both lose it along with cast members Amy Poehler, Horatio Sanz and Fred Armisen.

The actors were defenseless against every wounded trumpet sound and close-up of Dratch's tortured face as she killed the buzz of Disney with talk of global warming, terrorism and a train explosion in North Korea.

    Watch the full sketch here:

"I was trying not to laugh," Fallon told Lohan on Thursday. "I know you were, but it made it worse," she replied.

Let's hope Lohan and the "SNL" gang can capture another moment to remember this Saturday.

Jimmy Fallon does Pearl Jam to embrace 'Jeremy' Linsanity

    By Kurt Schlosser

Jimmy Fallon has embraced the Linsanity surrounding New York Knicks basketball sensation Jeremy Lin. And Thursday night he combined that with his uncanny knack for musical impersonations -- a Knick knack, if you must.

Fallon took to the "Late Night" stage made up as Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder for a convincing spoof on the 1991 hit "Jeremy." You know where this is going, right? Jeremy wasn't "at home, drawing pictures, of mountain tops, he was "at home, shooting free throws, and 3-point shots."

Fallon nails the Vedder-like vocals throughout the song and manages to work in references to Tim Tebow, Kim Kardashian and Spike Lee. A nod to Mookie Blaylock would have given the song the real NBA/grunge cred it needed, though.

"Jeremy spoke in class todaaaaayyyyy"? Nope. The line stuck in your head now will be "Jeremy Linnnnn-sannnn-i-tyyyyyyyy."

If you need a little refresher on Pearl Jam's original, check out the video below. And then get on over to Facebook to tell us how you liked Fallon's song.

Fallon to take on Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber at post-Super Bowl live show

    By Randee Dawn

    "We love Jimmy!"

It was pretty easy to get the crowd around a makeshift TODAY plaza in Indianapolis, Ind. cheering for Jimmy Fallon: The host of "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" has been revving the whole town up all week by taping his show there -- the home of Sunday's Super Bowl XLVI.

Late-night host Jimmy Fallon joins TODAY to talk about taking his show on the road for the first time ever, broadcasting from Indianapolis to mark the Super Bowl.

It's the first time "Late Night" has been on the road with Fallon at the helm, so he made it special by re-creating his usual show opening (in which he races through New York City streets), using Indianapolis streets instead. Fallon called it a "love letter to Indianapolis" when Ann Curry and Al Roker joined him on TODAY's faux-football field, complete with cheerleaders and an enthusiastic crowd.

He added that it's been a delight to tape the show in Indianapolis' Hilbert Circle Theater -- for one reason, because they've had the symphony there playing with his usual house band, The Roots. "It's hip-hop and classical mixed together," he grinned.

    Follow @TODAY_Clicker

Fallon also gave a preview of what people can expect on his post-Super Bowl Sunday night show, which will be "live, live, live," he said. It'll feature a spoof of "The Voice," with people auditioning for the new halftime show -- and it sounds like Fallon will play everyone doing the audition, including Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift.

"Me as Taylor Swift is pretty ugly," he said.

As for who he thinks will win on Sunday? His "puppy predictor" says the New England Patriots, but Fallon remained diplomatic.

"We have the MVP of the game on our show, so I'm going to root for the MVP," he chuckled.

The live "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" special episode will air Sunday, Feb. 5, at 12:35 a.m. ET.

David Bowie meets Tim Tebow for 'Tebowie'

Jimmy Fallon combined Tim Tebow and David Bowie and came up with "Tebowie."

    By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper

Tim Tebow is a magnet for all pop-culture parody and tribute. Earlier this week,  we reported that "St. Elmo's Fire" songwriter John Parr has reworked that 1980s hit for the Denver Broncos quarterback.

And Thursday night, Jimmy Fallon combined Tebow and another musical moment when he offered up "Tebowie," a hilarious sketch melding the quarterback with musical legend David Bowie.

On "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," the host merged Bowie's Ziggy Stardust look with Tebow's jersey and pads and sang Bowie's 1969 "Space Oddity" with new lyrics. Instead of "Ground Control to Major Tom," the song came from "Jesus Christ to Tim Tebow" and vice-versa.

In Fallon's version, Jesus admonishes the QB for requesting his help during games, saying "Don't you know my day of rest is Sunday?" and warns him not to expect divine assistance in his upcoming game against the Patriots, saying "Dude, you're on your own. (Tom) Brady is too good and I've got better things to do."

Then Tebow himself takes the lyrics, and proclaims, "I want to make it to the Super Bowl, and show everyone on Earth how to Tebow," before striking his famous prayer pose.

Fallon channels Neil Young and Bob Dylan for classic TV sitcom themes

    NBC

Fallon performed some of his classic musical impersonations on Thursday night's "Tonight Show With Jay Leno."

    By Ree Hines

“Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon visited “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on Thursday to show off some of his most popular musical impressions. For fans of Fallon or Neil Young, Bob Dylan and classic '80s sitcoms, there were plenty of performances to satisfy.

First up for Fallon was the theme from “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” as only Young, or Fallon-as-Young, could possibly do it.

Then he channeled his inner-Dylan for a rousing rendition of the “Charles in Charge” song.

And for those who missed Fallon’s latest take on the same sort of routine from his own show, check out last week’s Doors-do-“Reading Rainbow” performance below.

What do you think of Fallon’s impressions? Spot on or over-the-top? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page.

Muppets join Michael Stipe, Martin Short for a 'Late Night' game

    NBC

Martin Short gives Miss Piggy something to think about during "Late Night's" take on "Password."

    By Ree Hines

It was all fun and games on Wednesday night’s “Late Night” as guests Michael Stipe and Martin short came face-to-face with Kermit and Miss Piggy for a rousing rendition of “Password.”

Jimmy Fallon doubled his hosting duties by following in the footsteps of classic game show presenter Allen Ludden for the match. And with Stipe and Kermit on one side and Short and Piggy on the other, Fallon certainly had his hands full.

Once the game was underway, the first round quickly went to Team Short-Piggy. The comedian guessed “mannequin” with only “dummy” to go on. But things took a turn for the worse when everyone’s favorite porcine Muppet had to figure out just what the clues “eggs,” “rasher” and “crispy” might allude to.

    Ouch!

Colbert proves his ice cream -- not Fallon's -- is flavor of the future

    Comedy Central

Stephen Colbert is not pleased with "eternal enemy of six months" Jimmy Fallon.

    By Anna Chan

    Oh, it is so on!

Ever since late-night host Jimmy Fallon debuted his own Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor (which is amazingly tasty, by the way), he and Stephen Colbert have battled for ice cream supremacy -- save for the brief period when the two declared a truce and became "BFFs for six months."

But now that they're no longer buddy-buddy and are "eternal enemies for six months," the ice cream wars are on again, with Fallon pitting his Late Night Snack against Colbert's Americone Dream. And to the great displeasure of Colbert, ice cream man Jerry revealed recently that Fallon's new flavor is indeed outselling Colbert's patriotic offering. Even worse for the Comedy Central funnyman, Fallon has a contest running where viewers submit photos of "all the things you can do with Colbert's disgusting ice cream besides eat it."

Naturally, Colbert isn't sitting back and crying red, white and blue tears into his pint of dessert. With the help of science, he proved on the "Report" on Wednesday night that his Americone Dream is the ice cream of the future.
